In my authoethnography, I try to address three critical questions.
1. Why do you think that friendships can be developed through video games?
2. How did video games affect my life?
3. How is video games viewed in our culture?
Through my interviews and artifact I outline both the first and second question. That part of the project serves to describe why video games are such an important part of my life. I also use those two questions to address the purpose of video games in forming friendships. To get a lot of different perspectives on the impact of video gaming on friendships is important. In answering the third question, I use the video and article to note the impact of video games in our society. Yet I want to dive a little deeper into the question. Video games as a whole in our society is viewed as more detrimental than beneficial to society. I make the counter argument that anything done too excessively (which is the case for video game addiction) is indeed bad for you. But there are video games out there designed for phones or consoles that serve to benefit one's mind through teaching. A gaming system such as the Wii has made an effort to expand its gaming experience by including live action controls. My true belief is that the purpose of video games is to entertain. In moderation, I believe that video games provide a great combination of entertainment and learning that you really have to see to appreciate. I hope that by looking through my website, my viewers would agree with me as well. Thank you.
